Winnegance Dam and Fishway Rehabilitation
Wright-Pierce was selected by the Winnegance Alewife Commission to provide engineering and regulatory assistance associated with rehabilitation of the existing dam and fishway at the outlet of Winnegance Lake.
In addition, the Commission, which oversees harvesting of the annual alewife run at the lake's outlet, asked Wright-Pierce to develop a replacement for the deteriorated wooden capture basket used for harvesting the alewives as they exit the fishway into the lake.
In order to supplement local funding for the desired improvements, Wright-Pierce assisted the commission in acquiring a grant under the NOAA/Gulf of Maine Program.
The project required approvals from the Maine DEP under the Natural Resources Protection Act and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, as well as negotiation of an agreement with the Maine Department of Transportation for work within the state right-of-way.
