Replacement Wells Hydrogeological Investigation

The Sanford Water District has a small diameter well field comprised of two separate fields.

One field, comprised of more than thirty 2.5-inch diameter wells, and subject to seasonal flooding, was deemed under the direct influence of surface water. This well field was placed offline.

The second well field, which is comprised of seven, small diameter wells ranging from 2.5 to 6 inches in diameter, is housed in a small enclosed block foundation. The well field pumped directly into a clear well that was determined to be structurally unsound and infiltrating surface water.  The enclosed small diameter well field pumps 300 GPM from a shallow aquifer, 28 feet in depth.

A hydrogeologic investigation was performed and a determination was made. Replacement wells, fitted with water-tight, pitless adaptors, could be drilled adjacent to the building without being under the influence of surface water. Test drilling and construction well drilling was conducted. Three, 12-inch diameter, gravel-developed wells were constructed and pump tested at 300 GPM.  Wright-Pierce subsequently conducted a town-wide aquifer analysis to locate future groundwater well supplies.
