Nutrient Removal is Topic at New Hampshire and Maine Conferences
New Hampshire Joint Water and Watershed Conference
The 2009 New Hampshire Joint Water and Watershed Conference was recently held in Concord. The two day event, 2020 Vision, was designed to address environmental topics related to lakes, rivers, groundwater, and watersheds throughout the state of New Hampshire. Wright-Pierce engineers were among the invited presenters.
Wastewater Engineers Bill Brown, P.E., and Pete Atherton, PE, addressed the issue of nutrient removal in their presentation, "Nitrogen - The 21st Century Coastal Watershed Challenge." They discussed the various chemical, biological and secondary treatment technologies and related filtration technologies for addressing high nitrogen levels from effluent streams into watershed regions along the New Hampshire coast. The presentation also addressed the phosphorus levels from inland tributary rivers which eventually end up in our watersheds.
