Design-Build - Public Works Garage

The town public works garage presented significant limitations. The building was less than 3,000 square feet, with only two truck bays. The restricted site didn’t provide an adequate lay-down area and covered salt/sand storage. In addition, access to the public works garage site, particularly for loaded trucks, was difficult.

After reviewing other new facilities, the Town developed a conceptual design for their new facility. They were also able to acquire property located off the Coastal Connector, which was more centrally located and had excellent access.

A design-build method of executing the project was selected, but as a municipal entity, they were required to publicly bid the project. In order to achieve a fair bidding process with equitable proposals, they needed assistance in producing suitable bid documents.

Wright-Pierce developed the bid documents seeking the contractor to design and build the new facility. The completed facility consists of a 16,000 S.F. garage with seven truck bays, office area and storage, a 9,000 CY sand/salt storage building, and a large lay-down area.
