Well Supply Evaluation and Replacement

Wright-Pierce was retained by Massachusetts Development Finance Agency (MassDevelopment) for a five year contract to comprehensively assess its drinking-water, well-supply sources. MassDevelopment is the designated state agency responsible for the reuse, redevelopment and operation of the Devens Enterprise Zone (DREZ). MassDevelopment is also responsible for providing all municipal services to the DREZ.

The system is served by four gravel groundwater supplies having an original pumping capacity of up to 5.0 MGD. However, all of the well yields have declined over time; cleaning did not restore their original yields. The Patton and Shabokin wells were selected for replacement.

Hydrogeologic evaluation of the aquifer resulted in new well designs that increased each well’s specific capacity. Pump testing of the Patton Well was completed at a pumping rate of 1500 GPM.  The Shabokin Well is under design and permit review.
