Full-service civil and environmental engineering firm, Wright-Pierce, has announced its new office in Burlington, Vermont. The firm has been assisting communities throughout northern New England with their wastewater, water, and civil infrastructure needs since 1947. This expansion marks the firm’s commitment to local, dedicated service in Vermont.
Vermont Presence
One of the firm’s first projects in Vermont began almost two decades ago for Champlain Water District designing and overseeing construction for a lake water intake that would provide long-term reliable water for the area. Wright-Pierce has maintained a temporary office in Vermont since 2023. Now, the permanent office sits near the shore of Lake Champlain, which the firm is currently working to protect with its ongoing projects, such as preliminary and final design of upgrades to the City’s Main Wastewater Treatment Facility. This project responds to Burlington’s Clean Water Resiliency Plan, which identified the need for major investment in its treatment facilities to improve phosphorus removal, increase hydraulic capacity, and reduce the frequency and volume of untreated combined sewer overflows to better protect Burlington’s waterways. Wright-Pierce is also working on projects in Vergennes, Barre, and Middlebury.
This expansion is a natural extension of the firm’s deep establishment in the New England market and reflects the firm’s goal of increasing its capacity to better assist communities facing challenges associated with aging infrastructure and evolving environmental regulations.
Leadership & Path Forward
Jennie Auster, PE, steers this expansion effort as Wright-Pierce’s Vermont Wastewater Group Leader, having joined the firm in 2023. She has worked over half of her two-decade career in Vermont, providing engineering services for the study, design, and construction of wastewater systems. Jennie regularly works with communities to optimize funding opportunities, supporting Wright-Pierce’s goal of providing sustainable, cost-effective, environmentally sound solutions to its Vermont client base.
“Having served Vermont communities for so much of my career, I have seen first-hand the increasing need for support in addressing infrastructure challenges. Our office in Burlington empowers us to provide needed, local assistance to these communities.”
