Wright-Pierce announced the addition of three senior level engineers to the firm’s Water Engineering Group. Daniel Saulnier, PE; Jose Alvarez, PhD, PE; and Michael Hornig, PE have recently joined the 275-person, multidisciplinary environmental engineering company with offices throughout New England, New York, and Florida.

Daniel Saulnier, PE Daniel Saulnier, PE comes to Wright-Pierce with more than two decades of experience in municipal engineering including water treatment, storage, and distribution systems. His work has ranged from pilot testing, water treatment alternatives analysis and design, and construction services through start-up. Dan was formerly a faculty member in Northeastern University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. As part of his commitment to the engineering profession, Dan has traveled extensively providing pro bono engineering services in the developing world, for both drinking water systems and wastewater systems, and has had extensive involvement with Engineers Without Borders (EWB). Dan’s wide-ranging technical experience and passion for the waterworks industry will help in the identification of optimized solutions for our clients. Dan is based in Wright-Pierce’s Manchester, NH office.

Jose Alvarez, PhD, PE Jose Alvarez, PhD, PE has over 20 years of experience in the water industry. He has served large municipalities as Senior Project Manager overseeing the design and construction of extensive water and sewer system rehabilitation and replacement projects. Jose received his PhD in civil engineering with a focus on the removal of contaminants of emerging concerns (CECs), such as PFAS and 1,4-dioxane from water supplies. He is also an adjunct professor at Northeastern University, in the graduate programs of Civil and Environmental Engineering, teaching courses in water quality. He has been published in several industry and scholarly publications and is routinely invited to serve as a peer reviewer of scientific and professional journals. His most recent publication, in early 2021, was about the oxidation and degradation of PFAS and pharmaceuticals in water. As the detection and treatment of CECs in public water supplies is increasingly becoming a priority for municipalities, Jose will play a key role in assisting clients identify, treat, and reduce the level of the various CECs in drinking water. Jose is based in Wright-Pierce’s Andover, MA office.

Michael Hornig, PE Michael Hornig, PE has worked with numerous communities throughout southern New England during his 25-year career as a water engineer. He has designed and managed municipal water infrastructure projects from the planning stages through construction. Mike’s expertise includes master plans, hydraulic modeling, transmission and distribution, pumping systems, and storage. He also has extensive experience in stormwater MS4 permitting, sewer system engineering, construction, and GIS services. Mike’s depth of experience will add to our clients’ success by leading the implementation of holistic solutions to their challenging infrastructure needs. Mike is based in Wright-Pierce’s Providence, RI office.
